Jim Balcom is the President and CEO of PolyFuel, a leading developer of hydrocarbon membrane technology for portable and automotive fuel cell applications.

Jim joined PolyFuel in September 2002, from Chrysalix Energy Partners, the fuel cell venture capital firm, where he was entrepreneur-in-residence. Previously, Balcom spent 4 years with Ballard Power Systems in senior fuel cell development engineering and fuel cell manufacturing management positions. After leaving Ballard, Balcom spent 4 years with a technology start-up as VP Engineering & Manufacturing, developing and commercializing a flat panel speaker technology licensed from the University of British Columbia. Balcom ultimately became President of the company and negotiated its sale to one of the audio industry’s larger players.

Jim has a Systems Design Engineering Degree from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
