Curriculum Vitae
Raffaele Liberali was born and educated in Rome, where
he obtained a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.
After different experiences in industry, he joined the European Commission
in 1978, where he first worked as Scientific officer in Directorate-General
« Energy ». He subsequently took up position as Assistant
to the Director-General for « Credit and Investments », becoming
Head of Unit for « Studies and new financial techniques »
within the same Directorate-General in 1989. He then spent 5 years as
Head of Unit in Directorate-General « Personnel and Administration
». In 1996 he moved to Directorate-General « Research »
as Director for « Administrative and financial affairs ».
In 2001 he became Director for «The human factor, mobility and
Marie Curie activities» within Directorate-General « Research
», in charge of the implementation of human resources in research
policies and of the Marie Curie actions.
In October 2006, he was appointed Director for Energy within the Directorate-General
"Research". In this position he is in charge of the implementation
of the Non-Nuclear Energy priority of the 7th Framework Programme, as
well as the definition of political priorities and the coordination with
Member States and research/industrial stakeholders in the field of non-nuclear
energy technologies. This work is carried out in close cooperation with
DG Transport and Energy.
